How Brewster Beta Club Gives Back to the Community
-
For many summers now, Brewster parents have come to know about the summer reading program, an immersive reading experience over four weeks. Each new summer brings a new theme. Beta Club has, for many years, obtained grants from the Hansen Foundation and worked closely with local teachers to keep this program going.
-
Beta Club has graced with the presence of Master Gardeners, who put their knowledge and skills toward beautifying our quaint downtown area. With the guidance of these masters, other Beta Club members dig in plant a thoughtfully curated collection of flowers to line the streets of Brewster each summer. These planter boxes require seasonal upkeep, watering throughout the summer, and re-planting with each new year. Beta members are on it!
-
Each Veterans’ Day in November, Beta Club collaborates with Brewster School to provide an appreciation event for local veterans. This effort involves teachers, students, Beta Club members, and veterans to show a legacy of recognition for the sacrifices of our those who have served in the armed forces.
-
In our own little corner of the rural Kansas world, Beta Club works to offer local high school students a financial boost to their next steps towards adulthood.
-
Beta Club wants to pay it forward by offering quality leadership education to students of Brewster. One way we do this is by sponsoring attendance for high school students to the Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership conference. Each year, this nationwide organization holds state-specific conferences. The Kansas conference is held at the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan.

It’s only fitting that a women’s club prioritizes women’s health. These topics range in depth and breath, but they all affect women. Topics we have covered for both club members and community members in recent years include:
End-of-life planning
Certified Nurse Midwifery
Blue Zones
Awareness of abuse in rural areas
